Year 2. Grade 7.
In our MYP Language and Literature courses, the Statement of Inquiry (SOI) guides our instruction. The SOIs and the accompanying works of literature will give you an outline for our first semester of the year.
Unit 1 -- Point-of-view and character affect communication and influence identities and relationships.
This unit will begin with a close look at some sci-fi and dystopian literature (woohoo!). We'll dive deep into the meaning of the term "point-of-view," taking it beyond the simple identification of first-, second-, or third-person. Then, we'll examine how that understanding of point-of-view can impact all kinds of other realms when it comes to particular pieces of literature.
Unit 2 -- Perspective influences purpose and style, shaping one's self-expression and identity formation.
For this unit, we will primarily focus on the genre of poetry. Students will seek to understand not only what poetry means, but how it means what it means. Why is it structured like that? Why does it rhyme or not rhyme? Why is it so confusing? In doing so, we may even learn a little bit about our own identities and places in this world.
